Giordano Bellincampi was born in Rome in 1965, and studied trombone and conducting under Jorma Panula and others at RDAM (1985-1991).

In 1994 he made his conducting debut with Odense Symphony Orchestra after an active career as an orchestral musician, including as a trombonist in the Royal Danish Orchestra. Since then he has regularly conducted all of the Danish orchestras, as well as leading European, American and Asian orchestras and opera houses.

Teaching

Giordano has been employed at RDAM since 2009 with responsibility for the conductor programme.

Artistic practice

With an enormous repertoire encompassing classical, romantic and modern music, Giordano has made a career in Central European, Italian and Scandinavian orchestras, in particular.

He made his operatic conducting debut in 1997 at the Danish National Opera, which he headed from 2005-2013. Concurrently with this post, he has expanded his extensive international conducting career.

In 2000 he made his debut at the Royal Theatre with Puccini’s La Bohème, and he has since regularly conducted operas by Puccini as well as other major works on the theatre’s stages, including Verdi’s Aida for the opening of the Opera in 2005. In the same year Giordano Bellincampi made his debut at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf with Puccini’s La Bohème and in 2006 at Cincinnati Opera with Puccini’s Tosca.

From 2012-2017, Giordano was principal conductor of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra and of the orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan. He was also principal conductor of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra from 2013-2018, and in Denmark he was principal conductor of Athelas Sinfonietta from 1997-2000, and of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000-2005.

Giordano is also a regular guest conductor with orchestras around the world, particularly in Scandinavia and Europe, including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as in North America, Asia and Australia.
