BOARD

The Board at RDAM holds overall responsibility for the strategic development of the institution and ensures that the Academy remains among the leading centres for music education.

The Board is composed of representatives from the music world, the cultural sector, the business community, as well as staff and students from RDAM. Together, they work to strengthen the Academy’s artistic and educational profile, create optimal conditions for students and faculty, and maintain a strong connection to the professional music environment.

PRESIDENT

As the President of the Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM), Helene Gjerris is responsible for leading, developing, and inspiring a relevant and modern contemporary education for future generations of classical musicians. She draws on her rich experience as an educator, performer, head of department and leader of projects.

Helene Gjerris was appointed as President of the Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) in the summer of 2024, having previously served as a Professor of Voice and Head of the Vocal Department since 2016.

HISTORY

The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) was founded in 1867 by the composer Niels W. Gade and is Denmark’s oldest professional institution for music education. With around 400 students, it is also the largest music academy in Denmark with a focus on classical music. HM Queen Mary is the Academy’s patron.
