Jan Lund graduated as a pianist from RDAM in 1990, and as a singer – tenor – in 1994. This was followed by further voice studies in London, Rome and Copenhagen under Thomas Hemsley, Angelo degl’Innocenti, Margreth Baker-Genovesi, Tonny Landy and Kirsten Buhl Møller, amongst others.

In 2009, Jan graduated from the Master’s programme in Elite Voice Pedagogy at RDAM.

Teaching

Jan has been employed as a part-time teacher at RDAM since 2009. He also teaches voice at Sjællands Kirkemusikskole (Sealand School of Church Music) in Roskilde and in the preparatory class for academies (MGK) at Frederiksberg Musikhøjskole (Frederiksberg School of Music). In addition, he is a much sought-after private voice teacher.

As a small part of the overall thesis with which he completed his Master’s programme at RDAM in 2009, Jan wrote a methodology paper in which he describes his reflections and approach to the teaching of voice.

Artistic practice

Jan has an extensive solo career as an oratorio and concert singer all over Denmark, with a large repertoire in both modern and classical opera. He has sung with most of the Danish opera companies, and has in particular been requested on several occasions by the Danish National Opera, the Funen Opera and the Other Opera, as well as Aarhus Summer Opera.

In 2005, Jan made his successful debut at the Royal Theatre in Odysseus in the role of Telemaco, and abroad he has been associated with Transparant Muziektheater in Antwerp for some years. He has also sung with companies in Austria, Netherlands, Belgium and Norway, as well as in England and Scotland.

Jan has a partnership with the soprano Elsebeth Dreisig in “Duetten på Pletten” and “DogmeOpera” and is part of the chamber music ensemble Carl Nielsen Trio, which in 2012 released the critically acclaimed CD Carl Nielsen - Sange i nyt Lys.

Jan has given several masterclasses, including at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus in 2007 and in Arezzo in 2016.

“Singer of the Year 1994”, Spies Foundation.

Jan has also received awards and scholarships from the Friends of the Opera, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and Queen Ingrid’s Roman Foundation.

Abroad, Jan has been associated with Transparant Muziektheater in Antwerp for some years, and has also sung with companies in Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Norway, as well as in England and Scotland.
