Jesper Andersen is a graduate of the tonmeister programme at RDAM, and as a Grammy-nominated producer, technician and pianist he has recorded around 100 CDs and produced music for radio, TV, theatre, installations and performance. Jesper has also worked as a sound engineer/producer at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.

Teaching

Jesper is course co-ordinator and principal study teacher in the tonmeister programme at RDAM. He has previously taught music production and sound engineering at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

In addition to teaching, Jesper works intensively at RDAM on the development of distance learning for instrumentalists.

Artistic practice

Jesper produces in a wide range of genres, including both classical and popular music. He has worked with, amongst others, the Danish Chamber Orchestra, Athelas Sinfonietta, Holland House, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Figura, Modern Tango Quintet, Inviolata, Bjarke Mogensen, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, Under Byen, Efterklang, Choir of Young Believers, Wynona, Homesick Hank, Czeslaw Spiewa, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Mary Gauthier.

Jesper has been involved in a number of development projects in Distance Learning and e-learning, including:

  • Intermusic, an EU project in collaboration with the conservatories of Vilnius and Milan
  • Dig. Music, a NordPlus project in co-operation with Helsinki, Tallinn, Tampera and Vilnius
  • Development of Virtual Audition in co-operation with Oulu and Vilnius
  • Five major collaborative projects between RDAM and RMC on rhythmic symphony orchestra concerts.
  • MUSAiC is an online meeting place for classical musicians, with a continuously updated video library curated by the US Orchestral Academy. Just as teachers pass on knowledge to their students, MUSAiC provides access to classical music instruction and conversations between both students and professional musicians. The project has been developed in a collaboration between the New World Symphony, Cleveland Institute of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester), Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London), Manhattan School of Music, the Royal Danish Academy of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Southern California.

Research

From 2020 to 2025, Jesper is working on the PhD project Music & Technology, which is a collaboration between RDAM and Aalborg University.

Jesper has also participated in a number of research projects, including “Distance Learning in Higher Music Education” and “Towards a More Creative Music Mixing Interface”.

Jesper Andersen has given guest lectures/masterclasses at Aalborg University and a number of international academies of music, including the Royal College of Music in London, the Chopin University of Music, Warsaw, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Miami University, Cleveland Institute of Music, Northwestern University, Yale University, Conservatorio Musica Verdi Milano, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
