Education

Rikke Sandberg studied at RDAM and made her debut concert in 2002. Further studies under Nina Svetlanova and Jacob Lateiner in New York.

Since her debut concert in 2002, Rikke has been part of the elite in Danish music life, and is known as an unusually distinctive pianist. She is constantly present and fully immersed in the music, and her skills and talent seem to have no limits – she is just as happy playing music that is hundreds of years old as music written yesterday. Star reviews have rained down upon her, and at the age of just 27 she received the Artist’s Prize of the Circle of Music Critics and was included in the Krak Blue Book.

Teaching

Since 2014, Rikke has been employed as a part-time teacher at the Danish National Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Artistic practice

Rikke has always dedicated her piano playing and musicianship to performing in as many contexts as possible: as a soloist, with and without an orchestra, as an accompanist for world-famous singers and instrumentalists, and as a chamber musician in Denmark and abroad, including with the legendary crossover orchestra Mad Cows Sing”. She is driven by passion, curiosity and a great urge to play music all her waking hours, and she has no wish to limit herself.

As a soloist, Rikke has performed with several Danish and foreign orchestras, including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Chamber Orchestra, Leipzig Chamber Orchestra, most of the Danish regional orchestras, the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards, Tivoli Gardens Symphony Orchestra and Luxembourg Philharmonia, under the leadership of names like M. Tabachnick, J. Storgaards, A. de la Parra, A. Fischer, C. Mandeal, D. Porcelijn, T. Dausgaard, and many more.

She is often the orchestral pianist for Thursday concerts with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the Copenhagen Phil and Athelas Sinfonietta. Since 1996, she has played in the Danish Piano Duo with Tanja Zapolski.

Rikke has been artistic director of several classical music festivals, and in 2017 she founded the Nordic Chamber Music Festival, of which she is director and artistic director.
