Background

Søren Monrad graduated from Det kgl. Danske Musikkonservatorium in 1980 as percussion player. Employed as visiting associate professor and head of the percussion department at DKDM 2022.

teaching

Comprehensive teaching experience: 1978-80 part time teacher at Holstebro Musikskole, Rødovre Musikskole 1981-95, Tivoli Garden 1988-94 and DKDM 1989-91.  

Since 1983 Lecturer and head of the percussion department at Danish National Academy of Music, Odense DK 

Artistic practice

1980-2016 member of The Royal Danish Orchestra as percussion player and solo timpanist.  

Member of numerous bands and orchestras, e.g. Cirkus Benneweiss orchestra (1979-80), Tivoli Concert- and Big Band (1980-82), Collegium Musicum, Royal Danish Brass and various percussion groups. 

Add a comprehensive career in chamber music and as soloist with e.g. The Royal Danish Orchestra, Odense Symphoni Orchestra, Clüvers Big Band and Tip Toe Big Band. 

Numerous international concerts and masterclasses. 

Comprehensive work as jury member at orchestral auditions and exams. 

Søren Monrad has made numerous recordings e.g. Bartok: Sonate for 2 pianos and percussion, George Crumb: Makrocosmos and own work: Galadriel with Tip Toe Big Band. 

Comprehensive work as composer and arranger with the emphasis on percussion music.  

Most important works: Zavanna for 6 percussion players (1986), Galadriel for Big Band, Wildfire for 2 percussion players (2009), Mechanics for 8 players (2016) commissioned by the The Royal Danish Orchestra percussion group. 

TermoXstatic for percussion soloist and orchestra (2018) commissioned by Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester. 

Søren Monrad is a member of the Danish Composers´ Society.
