The Royal Danish Academy of Music is part of the digital consortium Global Conservatoire, and last semester we offered the course Tradition with a Twist, taught by Søren Schauser, which focused on Carl Nielsen’s instrumental works.

Students from the course have been invited to Copenhagen in April 2026, where they have spent a week studying Carl Nielsen’s music with faculty from the Academy. The final concert on Thursday, 16 April, is the result of this work.

Here, the audience will be able to experience small piano gems, fantasy pieces for saxophone, the world-famous wind quintet, and much more.

“The event featuring these young virtuosos from Vienna, London, New York, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen will be something of a shining moment in Danish musical life. Working with young talents from all over the world is among the highlights of the year,” says Søren Schauser.

Global Conservatoire is a collaboration between five conservatories: Manhattan School of Music, Royal College of Music, mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

The programme brings faculty and students from the five partner institutions together in asynchronous online classrooms. This creates an international exchange of ideas and allows students from five conservatories in three different time zones to work at their own pace and complete courses alongside busy rehearsal and practice schedules.
