Uffe Savery has announced his resignation as President of The Royal Danish Academy of Music

Uffe Savery, President of The Royal Danish Academy of Music, has decided to resign after four years as president. From 1st of September, Niels Rosing-Schow will be appointed as President in an interim position until a new president is appointed. Uffe Savery looks back with pride on the past four years at RDAM and on behalf of the academy, looks forward to the next four years of the new framework agreement period.

In 2019, the Minister of Culture appointed Uffe Savery as President of RDAM. Uffe Savery has a wide-ranging career as a musician, having received his education at RDAM with both a diploma in music education and an advanced postgraduate diploma, and took over the position of president of RDAM with 9 years of leadership experience as Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the symphony orchestra Copenhagen Phil. Under Uffe Savery's leadership as president for the past four years, the Academy has pulled through a difficult, prolonged period heavily affected by COVID-19 and successfully completed an extensive institutional accreditation process. Through careful consideration, processes have been initiated to further develop RDAM’s study programmes, and these developments will be implemented in the coming framework agreement period. With the coming appointment of a board of directors for RDAM, it will be the responsibility of this new board to ensure the appointment of a new president. Niels Rosing-Schow, former Professor of Composition, who has also served as vice-president for five years, has been appointed as president in an interim position until a new president is appointed. Jesper Juul Windahl will continue as vice-president at his own request.

Uffe Savery states:

"It has been a great pleasure to work with highly professional and passionate teachers, very committed students, and a highly competent administration supporting all activities. All staff and students have contributed to achieving both concrete academic results and cultural and educational developments, with a renewed focus on educating the graduates of the future. Thus, there is a good, visionary, exciting, and promising foundation for the upcoming strategy and framework agreement. It is based on student-centered learning, flexibility in study programme structures, and supports future graduates as performing, teaching and producing musicians, who can establish a sustainable (often complex) life as musicians, and who can create the music and cultural life of the future. International relations have been strengthened, and the Global Conservatoire collaboration with Vienna, London, Manhattan and Amsterdam has put RDAM on the world map.

My desire to step down as president is based on a personal choice to devote myself entirely to my artistic work, a versatile life as a musician, combined with an independent career in leadership and cultural institutional consulting, as well as mentoring young musicians. The fact that this is happening right now is due to the momentum that has recently arisen with Safri Duo, calling for my time and focus now.

I am proud to hand over the baton to Niels Rosing-Schow and the future board, a collaboration I had been looking forward to. I am convinced that Niels will ensure good leadership in the coming interim period until a new president is appointed."

Niels Rosing-Schow adds:

"I look forward to taking over as president for a period until the next board is ready to appoint a new rector. I look forward to meeting all staff and students again, both old and the new, who are about to begin their studies at RDAM.

I am extremely familiar with RDAM from my many years of employment, including as a professor of composition. As former vice-president for five years, I also had the opportunity to be acting president for a couple of times. Under Uffe Savery's leadership, RDAM has undergone a rapid development, and I will ensure that this continues. It will also be an exciting task to begin a collaboration with the new board.”
