The hidden potential for chamber music in piano duets

Artistic research (KUV)
by Marie-Luise Bodendorff

As a genre, piano duets are often overlooked, with more focus placed on solo piano or other more obvious forms of chamber music. Sometimes, it brings to mind associations with early stages of a pianist’s training, instead of a genre that remains relevant at all levels of musicianship.

However, pieces of great artistic quality can be found within the tradition of piano duets; pieces with substantial challenges and thus opportunities for learning and artistic development in the fields of ensemble playing, interpretation and technical development. With our project, we aim to contribute to the renewal of this tradition.

The project will conclude with a new composition for piano duet by Tuan Hao Tan. Marie-Luise Bodendorff, in collaboration with RDAM piano students, will premiere the piece.
