Mattias Branner

Mattias (born 1986) completed his Master’s degree in Aural Skills Pedagogy at RDAM in 2019 and has been teaching there ever since. Alongside his teaching in aural skills, Mattias is a pianist with an active presence in the Danish music scene. He made his debut from RDAM’s Soloist Class in 2023, specialising in accompaniment and chamber music.

At the heart of Mattias’s artistic work lies improvisation. In 2024, he completed the Artistic Development Project 'Ex tempore, ex silentio – The Resonance of Classical Music in Free Improvisation', in which, under the guidance of pianist and composer Carsten Dahl, he explored his own improvisational practice. Mattias is part of RDAM’s development forum on improvisation pedagogy and has, among other things, taught improvisation as an elective subject. He is currently working on an Educational Development Project on instrumental and vocal improvisation in classical aural skills. The project aims to outline a range of pedagogical applications of improvisation through concrete exercises targeting specific elements and learning objectives in aural skills teaching. The project will run until the summer of 2026.
