Composition student Albert Laubel wins award at CUE 2025
In 2025, participants were tasked with composing for an excerpt from the upcoming Danish feature film ‘Børnene fra Sølvgade 2’. The sole requirement was that the music had to be written for a full symphony orchestra.
A total of 50 composers took part, six of whom were selected for the final round, where their works were performed by the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra at an impressive final concert in November 2025. Leading up to the concert, the composers had the opportunity to refine their scores, and the three preceding days were spent in rehearsals with the orchestra and conductor Christian Schumann.
At just 23, Albert Laubel was the youngest composer in the competition. He explains that he entered with a certain sense of awe, competing alongside older and more experienced colleagues. Nevertheless, the process was marked by a positive atmosphere and many wonderful people.
The jury consisted of Thomas Volmer Schultz, Halfdan E, film consultant Stefan Frost, and the Head of Music at the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. First prize and the audience award went to Kent Søgaard, third prize to Lasse Elkjær, and Albert Laubel received second prize along with a DKK 25,000 award, which he intends to invest in his continued studies.
“It is a tremendous privilege to have your music performed by the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. And on top of that, it is incredibly overwhelming to be in the final alongside such a group of experienced composers. Receiving this prize provides a huge boost for those moments when I’m composing and sometimes doubt myself. With this award, I can dedicate more time and focus to writing music for the screen. I am immensely grateful for that,” says Albert Laubel.
Albert Laubel is a student at RDAM, where he is in the third year of his bachelor’s degree and has studied with Bent Sørensen, Rune Glerup, and Jeppe Just Christensen. In composing for CUE 2025, he drew in part on the skills he has developed in his orchestration courses.

“It is truly impressive that Albert Laubel has received such a fine award at the film music competition in Aarhus. Albert works extensively with film music, so this is a tremendous acknowledgment. It also opens doors for him in his future work within the genre and provides valuable experience in symphonic film music.”
Albert Laubel (b. 2002, Denmark) is currently studying composition at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Since childhood, he has been involved in music and drama through piano playing and performing in musicals. Today, he works with music for film, theatre, documentary, series, and, not least, concerts in the Academy Concert Hall. Most recently, he has composed music for the short films 'Hanrej' (2025), 'Sortie' (2025), 'Bertil er stoppet til håndbold' (2025), and 'New Men' (2024).
