P2 Talent of the Year 2026

“He is one of the greatest musical talents of his generation (…) With his fearless playing and constant search for expression, there is no doubt that Bjarke Schousboe will be one of the leading figures in the musical life of the years to come,” the jury states.

Bjarke Schousboe, 22, grew up in Copenhagen in a family of musicians and has played the bassoon since he was introduced to the instrument at the age of seven.

In 2022, he began his studies at RDAM and will soon complete his bachelor’s degree. Since 2024, he has held a permanent position as alternating principal bassoon with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Regarding his appointment as P2 Talent 2026, Bjarke Schousboe says:
“Now that I play a more atypical instrument, I would like to introduce people to the bassoon. I’m often asked: Can it play on its own? Well, yes, it can! It is also a huge honour to be named ‘P2 Talent’, and a wonderful feeling to be recognised—that someone notices what you do.”

In March, Bjarke Schousboe performed in two concerts: one at Christians Church in Copenhagen together with last year’s ‘P2 Talent’, the pianist Valdemar Wenzel Most, and another with Ensemble Storstrøm at Vemmetofte Kloster. Both concerts can be replayed on DR LYD.
