3D Audio Explored

Artistic research (KUV)

All developments indicate that 3D audio is here to stay, both from an artistic point of view and from the point of view of employment. New 3D formats are regularly being launched and are gaining more and more traction with consumers, most recently with Apple Music’s launch of releases in the Dolby Atmos format. At the same time, there is a growing awareness among composers, tonmeisters and musicians of the possibilities of 3D sound, for example with ambisonics and binaural sound.

The project involves the organisation of a monthly “3D studio concert” in the New Hall at the Royal Danish Academy of Music: a total of ten concerts, which can be very diverse in nature. This will be a free framework in which composers, tonmeisters and other internal and external stakeholders can contribute with playback of 3D works and experiments.

During the concerts, documentation of the activities (audio files, sheet music and technical specifications) will be continuously collected for the purposes of future teaching and artistic development.
