Bine Bryndorf receives the Medal of the Royal College of Organists
Bine Bryndorf, who works as cathedral organist at Roskilde Cathedral and also teaches at RDAM and the Royal Academy of Music in London, has received one of the finest international distinctions for organists – The Medal of the Royal College of Organists.
The recognition comes from the Royal College of Organists (RCO), which annually awards three honorary distinctions to an organist, a choral conductor, and a composer. It is rare for international musicians to receive the medal, and previously it has only been awarded to two Scandinavian organists – Hans Fagius and Jon Lauvik – and now also to Bine Bryndorf.
She has known about the award since November but had to keep it confidential for several months until the RCO made the announcement public. The medals were presented at a ceremony at Southwark Cathedral in London, attended by representatives of the cathedral administration.
“It is a great honour and a great joy for me to receive the recognition that the RCO medal represents. Organ performance and teaching are my lifeblood and have been so since I began playing the organ at the age of 12 and later became assistant to my professor in Vienna at the age of 22. Even today, as cathedral organist in Roskilde, I continue to combine performance and teaching, as I still teach both as a professor in London and as a teacher at RDAM,” says Bine Bryndorf.
