International visits with art at the center
The visitors include students, faculty, and leaders from two of our international partnerships: ECMA and Global Conservatoire. Although the visits are independent of each other, they share a common focus on art. We meet our partners around musical and artistic development, workshops, and student exchange. Both visits culminate in concerts featuring student musicians from around the world.
As part of ECMA, we welcome some of the finest chamber ensembles from Europe’s leading conservatoires, who will gather at RDAM with three of our own ensembles for five intensive days of masterclasses and workshops.
ECMA stands for 'European Chamber Music Academy' and is a network of European conservatoires focused on chamber music and mutual student exchange. It has existed since 2004 and is rooted in the great European chamber music traditions.
The visit concludes with two concerts, where audiences can experience the ensembles celebrating chamber music together through a repertoire of both well-known and lesser-known gems.
Global Conservatoire is an international consortium of five conservatoires that have jointly developed a digital learning environment. During the April visit, a group of students will meet physically for the first time at RDAM, with Carl Nielsen as the artistic focal point. Selected international students have been invited, all of whom participated last semester in the course 'Tradition with a Twist' with Associate Professor Søren Schauser.
During the visit, they will continue working on the repertoire through teaching sessions and masterclasses. They will also visit the Royal Danish Library, where they will gain access to Carl Nielsen’s original manuscripts as inspiration for the final concert. The concert will take place on April 16, where audiences can experience the results of their collaboration and the music they have worked on during their stay.
Global Conservatoire consists of Manhattan School of Music, Royal College of Music, the Royal Danish Academy of Music, mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The visit to RDAM marks both the 5th anniversary of Global Conservatoire and a new step with in-person meetings between students.
